About Us

The original Cousin's Candy Shop in Virginia City, Montana was founded in 1970. Judy bought it from the retiring owners in 1987.

photos about new1 Judy, a native Californian, had taken an early retirement after working for an airline for 20 years and needed a second career. She'd always had the dream of being in business for herself, and while visiting a friend in Montana discovered the candy shop was for sale. The rest is history and after seeing firsthand how all the world loves candy, she decided a second location would be another dream come true.

She began considering California, partly because she was from there, and also, with her retirement agreement with the airlines, knew she could easily commute between the two locations. After researching various locations, in 1999 she finally settled on Old Town San Diego State Historic Park. Now that Judy's kids are grown and gone, she can be even more mobile. She now spends summers in Montana and winters in San Diego. She truly believes she has the best of both worlds.

Virginia City State Historic Park

photos small vcVirginia City is a preserved Victorian mining town located high in the Rocky Mountains of Southwest Montana. Gold was discovered here in Alder Gulch in 1863 and the town became the Territorial Capital in 1865. When gold ran out, even though some people remained, there was not enough wealth to remodel. The town froze architecturally and, today, represents the Victorian era. The main street is an exceptional example of mid-1800's architecture and many of the structures are original and still filled with the original artifacts.

Things are a bit on the quiet side during the winter months, but the town comes alive with fun and activity May through September. Look below for some of the fun activities and check www.virginiacitychamber.com for the annual Schedule of Events.

Old Town Historic State Park

photos small oldtownOld Town, San Diego is considered the “birthplace” of California. It was here that Father Serra came more than 200 years ago to establish the very first mission in a chain of 21 missions that were to be the cornerstones of California’s colonization. Father Serra’s mission and Presidio were built on a hillside overlooking what is currently known as Old Town, San Diego.

In 1969, the State of California, Department of Parks and Recreation established Old Town, San Diego State Historic Park to preserve the rich heritage of the 19th century. The park includes a main plaza where Kit Carson helped to raise the first American Flag in 1846, exhibits museums and living history demonstrations.

Seaport Village

photos small oldtownSeaport Village, San Diego, is the city's premiere waterfront shopping and dining destination. The famous Coronado Bridge is just to its south and the USS Midway carrier, a floating naval aviation museum, is just to its north. Interesting shops abound here and wonderful restaurants with terrific bayside views. It is near major hotels (Marriott Marquis, Omni, Hilton Bayfront) as well as the Convention Center.

Seaport Village was opened in 1980. It emcompasses 14 acres and has over 50 shops and restaurants. It's located right on the marina in beautiful San Diego Harbour. There is a carousal in the West Plaza. In the east plaza, where Cousins Candy Shop is located, is a gazebo that features live entertainment on Sundays 1-4 pm and hosts Santa Clause at Christmastime.
